What is a township anyway?

A township is a part of state government and is a subset of a county. It’s typically responsible for things like tax assessment, public assistance, unincorporated road maintenance, land-use planning, and trash collection.

Lake County has 18 townships, one being Ela Township.

How would you describe Ela Township?

Well, let’s see . . . Ela Township is a 36-square mile parcel of land in northern IL that’s part of both Lake County and the US 6th District. With a mix of suburban subdivisions, forest preserves, shopping centers, and pastoral estates, it extends east to west from the village center of Long Grove all the way to the eastern edge of Barrington and north to south from the Hawthorn Woods Country Club subdivision to Lake Cook Road.

As you can see on the map, Ela includes all or portions of seven towns: Lake Zurich, Hawthorn Woods, Long Grove, Deer Park, Kildeer, North Barrington, and Barrington.

Once Republican dominated, its 44,000 residents have gradually been shifting from bright red to a lovely shade of purple with visions of blue on the horizon.

Is Ela divided into sections?

You bet! Ela Township is comprised of 28 precincts, each requiring its own precinct committeeperson (PC).

The primary job of a PC is to get folks in their precinct to vote. They canvass, deliver campaign literature, send out postcards, make calls, send texts, and serve as year-round campaign volunteers for their political party.

Precincts in red are in need of a PC. If you’d like to assist us in getting out the vote and making Ela Township turn blue, contact us. We’d welcome you with open arms!
